Happy Summer!
Happy Summer! As we all take breaks from school and schoolwork, we wish all students rest, relaxation, play, exploration, and imagination. This reset and recharge will allow our student’s brains to develop without overwhelm. Along with the restful reset, some students need to gain understanding or skills for academic reset or awareness. We have several age-specific classes that you/ your child might benefit from which include:
Essential Study Skills – Grade 6: This is a class that offers understanding of executive functions, growth mindset, and resilience along with learning the skills and strategies that are necessary for the 6th grade transition and middle school success. The class is available to all rising 6th grade students.
Essential Study Skills – Grades 7/8: This is a class that offers a more involved definition of executive function and the skills that need to be learned during these grades to be prepared for middle school expectations and high school demands. This class is available to all rising 7/8th grade students.
Essential Study Skills – Grades 9-12: This is for the high school student who is struggling with the process of school and needs to individualize the skills that they should be using to create their greatest success and have their grades match their effort. This class is for all rising 9-12th grade students.
College Essay Writing: This is an 8 session 1:1 deep dive into personal narrative with a professional writer. This is for the student who doesn’t trust their voice and doesn’t believe that they have a compelling story for college admission, but it’s also for the student who does believe in their story but wants to work to make it stand out from thousands of other essays being read. We will not write it for them, it’s their story, but we will show them how to create an essay that will uniquely represent them.
The Art of Self; The Launch to College: This is the transition class that every graduating senior needs to take. Students will learn the differences between high school and college, and the executive function skills that will make their year much better. They will review where they can find help on their campus. They will explore advocacy, sleep, diet, living with strangers, social decisions, and anxiety. They will be prepared to head to school and understand what will be asked of them as they integrate into this new living and learning environment.
Finally, beginning in October, we will once again offer our very popular Parenting your child with Executive Dysfunction class. We will send more information on the class schedules at the end of the summer.
If you believe that you child could benefit from any of the above classes, you can view detailed course descriptions on our website. While there, you can also register for any of the classes that can help your child find the success that they deserve. We look forward to helping your child rewrite smart.
