The Art of Self: The Launch to College
The College transition is the first major milestone for many young people. The Art of Self: The Launch to College offers rising college freshmen specific awareness and skills to help them make a successful transition. Students will explore their academic, social, and emotional readiness during this ten-hour, five-day course.
Ultimately, this late spring/summer course gives each participant greater self-awareness, self-efficacy, and individualized strategies as they transition to greater independence. Students will leave for college with greater confidence and knowledge of the process as they transition to adult learners.
The Launch to College: Session Overview
Day 1
Day 1 explores readiness by identifying strengths and challenges that were present in high school, discussing executive function development, and considering anxiety triggers. We develop a list of strategies and supports that students can use when they are facing EF challenges.
Day 2
Day 2 defines the detailed differences between high school and college, the importance of the syllabus, the importance of the student-professor relationship, the use of teaching assistants, scheduling appropriate classes, and class load.
Day 3
Day 3 reviews actual syllabi and considers planning and time management at college. We also explore mindfulness and growth mindset.
Day 4
Day 4 discusses independence vs. isolation and reviews school maps to see the number of resources that are available to students. We discuss the importance of asking for help and who to ask, explore the importance of sleep and healthy eating, and finally discuss social choices.
Day 5
Day five assesses readiness and reviews personal skills and strategies that each student will take with them.

The Art of Self: RE-LAUNCH to College
The transition to adult independence and college is a struggle for many students, and the issue is not intelligence. Re-Launch to College uses the same materials as Launch to College but taught through a different lens that explores evaluations, expectations, self-awareness, and problem-solving. The Re-launch to College: Session Overview

Day five assesses specific changes that are needed and reviews personal skills and strategies that each student will implement to final academic success.
